Claudette Cantin, FCAS, FCIA, MAAA
SVP & Chief Actuary, Munich Re Canada

Claudette is a Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary at Munich Re Canada. A graduate of Laval University in 1980 with a Bachelor in Actuarial Sciences, Claudette obtained Fellowships in the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) in 1983 and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) in 1984. She is also a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

In her, thirty years of property and casualty insurance experience, she has served in various roles with a major P&C insurer as well as in P&C consulting practices. Prior to joining Munich Re Canada, Claudette was a Partner and leader of the P&C actuarial practice in KPMG’s Canadian insurance practice. Prior to that, she was a Consultant and Principal with Tillinghast-Towers Perrin in Toronto from 1989 to 1999. Claudette started her career at Travelers Canada in 1980, where she held the position of Actuary responsible for Actuarial and Financial Planning and Analysis.

Claudette has been active in the actuarial profession throughout her career. She is currently part of the OSFI Actuarial Advisory committee. She has served on the Board of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Board of the Casualty Actuarial Society. She chaired the CIA Property-Casualty Financial Reporting Committee and with several committees such as the Examination Committee, the Syllabus Committee, the Appointed Actuary Seminar in Canada, CIA Consolidated Standards of Practice, CIA Task Force on IAA Insurance Standards , to name a few.

She has spoken on several actuarial issues such as discounting of policy liabilities, Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing, Automobile compensation systems and emerging issues. She has worked with governments of several provinces on automobile reforms. She has worked on many actuarial studies on various compensation systems for automobile insurance as well as a study of international capital requirements for property and casualty insurers. She has co-authored a paper entitled, “Pricing No-Fault Automobile Insurance in Canada” and a paper on “Actuarial Evaluation of Premium Liabilities.
