Liam McFarlane

Mr. McFarlane is the leader of Ernst & Young’s Canadian actuarial practice.  In addition, Mr. McFarlane is a member of Ernst & Young’s global working group addressing pending changes to the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) insurance contracts (IFRS 4 – Phase II).

Prior to joining Ernst & Young in January 2009, Mr. McFarlane was leader of the casualty actuarial practice of Dion Durrell + Associates Inc.  He participated in the leadership of the firm as a Director and as a member of the Operating Committee.   Prior to joining Dion Durrell in 1996, Mr. McFarlane was Vice President, Personal Lines Underwriting and Chief Actuary with Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company.

Over his career Mr. McFarlane has been involved in many insurance industry committees as well as committees of the actuarial profession.  Currently, he is a member of the Committee of Professional Conduct of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Mr. McFarlane has approximately 26 years of experience in the Canadian property and casualty insurance industry.  Mr. McFarlane holds an honours Bachelor of Mathematics degree.
