Peter Kinch, Partner, Ernst & Young LLP

A native of Winnipeg, Peter moved in his late childhood to Toronto. In his adult life, he has been a resident of Kingston, Paris France and Toronto, where he currently resides. He is the proud father of three children in their teenage years and beyond.

A Chartered Accountant, Peter is a Partner of Ernst & Young with dual responsibilities to the General Counsel’s Office and to the Assurance practice.  In the GCO, he provides support and insight for litigious matters. In the Assurance practice, he has a particular focus on the financial services sector as an engagement quality control reviewer frequently working to tight timelines assisting a number of clients and audit teams to meet the challenges of evolving complex financial reporting requirements.

Beyond his significant experience in reviewing prospectuses and dealing with regulators, Peter also has extensive finance advisory-related experience in connection with business acquisitions and disposals, due diligence, transition monitoring of transactions, governance advisory services, process/controls assurance and risk management.

As a teenager, Peter was a volunteer in his local community. Today, he balances off his professional life as an active volunteer at the governance level with large and small not for profit organizations that advocate for social justice based on the concept of human rights and equity. Typically, these organizations support disadvantaged residents of Canada with a goal to improving their lives through educational and economic opportunities so that they can live and thrive in their relationships and beyond in their community. His areas of interest include effective board governance that is linked to an organization’s vision and mission, risk management, and strategy. He is also an elder at Armour Heights Presbyterian Church.

Peter is a mentor to many of Ernst and Young's staff and younger partners and has a strong interest in championing an inclusive environment within the firm.
