Jean Royer, M.Sc., CFA, CPA, CMA
Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Desjardins P&C Insurance

Jean Royer joined Desjardins in April 2010 as VP Finance for the P&C operations. He was a member of the negotiation team for the acquisition of the Canadian operations of State Farm and led the structuring of the $1.6 billion financing in support of the transaction. He also played a key role in the acquisition of Western Financial Group in 2011, implemented the follow-up process for the value creation initiatives associated with the transaction. Mr. Royer provides overall financial leadership for the property and casualty group. As CFO of Desjardins Financial Corporation, Mr. Royer led the creation of this regulated holding company with more than $50 billion in assets and which will serve as a financing vehicle. Mr. Royer is a member of the Desjardins Group Finance & Risk Committee and a Director of Desjardins International Asset Management.

Prior to his appointment at Desjardins, Jean Royer was VP Finance and Corporate Affairs of L'Union Canadienne from 2008 until 2010, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Co-operators General Insurance Company. Mr. Royer was also supporting Co-operators' efforts to deploy its network of exclusive agents in the Province of Quebec.

From 1999 to 2008, Mr. Royer was Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of the leading communications company in Canada, Cossette Communication Group ("Cossette"). Mr. Royer realized many assignments during his tenure as CFO of which the sucessful initial public offering in June 1999 and the deployment of an acquisition strategy which resulted in the ompletion of fifteen acquisitions in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. In addition to exercising overall financial leadership of the company, his responsibilities included finance, mergers and acquisitions, investors relations, corporate legal and information technology.

Mr. Royer also served as a Director of Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport for a three-year term until April 2013. Mr. Royer was also Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee.

Mr. Royer graduated from École des Hautes Études Commerciales in Montreal with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and he holds a Master of Science (Finance) from the University of Sherbrooke. Mr. Royer is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a member of the CFA Institute, a Certified Management Accountant (CPA, CMA).
