Career History

Mr. Christie is currently Vice-Chair of the Actuarial Standards Board. From July 2011 to June 2012 he was President of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Jim retired from Ernst & Young LLP in June 2011 where he had been a partner since 1995. During his sixteen year tenure at Ernst & Young, Jim developed its Canadian Property Casualty actuarial practice into one of Canada’s leading actuarial consultancies. He was also a member of Ernst & Young’s global working group addressing International Financial Reporting Standard on Insurance Contracts (IFRS 4 – Phase II).

Jim was President of IAO Actuarial Consulting Inc. from 1992 -1995. Jim was employed from 1978 to 1992 at The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company in numerous capacities including Vice President Finance, and Vice President & Chief Actuary.

Professional Activity

Canadian Institute of Actuaries – Jim was President of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries from 2011 to 2012 and previously served as Secretary-Treasurer and two terms as a member of its Board of Directors. He has also served on numerous CIA standing groups.  In 2001, the CIA awarded Jim its first gold service medal to recognize his volunteer activities to the Canadian actuarial profession.

Casualty Actuarial Society – Jim has served as Vice President – Admissions from 2005 to 2008. He has also served on its Board of Directors and numerous CAS standing groups.
