Phil Arthur, Partner, Ernst & Young


Phil Arthur began his career with Ernst & Young (then Clarkson Gordon) in 1970 and became a partner in 1980. He has a Masters of Business Administration degree and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant. During his career, Mr. Arthur has worked with clients in many industries, including a number of not-for-profit and healthcare entities, but recently has specialized in serving financial institutions. His clients have included TD Bank Financial Group, Manulife Financial, Newcourt Credit Group and ING Americas. Mr. Arthur is also Chair of the Insurance Accounting Task Force of the Canadian Accounting Standards Board and is a member of the Insurance Working Group of the International Accounting Standards Board. He advised a number of companies in Canada, the U.S. and Europe on financial reporting and other matters.

Mr. Arthur has been a warden of Grace-Church-on-the-Hill, a Director and Chair of the Finance Committee of the York School, Chair of the Board of Bridgepoint Health Foundation, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the University of Trinity College at the University of Toronto. Mr. Arthur retired from Ernst & Young in 2008 and, among other things, now teaches at the Schulich School of Business.
