William Onuwa, Head, Insurance Risk Management, RBC Financial Group


As Global Head of Insurance Risk Management at RBC Insurance, William Onuwa has the overall responsibility for the risk management and actuarial groups.  Also as a member of the Insurance Executive Committee, he is part of the executives responsible for setting the overall strategic direction for RBC Insurance.

Prior to joining RBC in 2007, William worked at various major blue chip firms, where he held different senior executive roles including business leadership across various regions of the world – Europe, Caribbean and the USA. He was employed to GE for nearly 12 years where he was most recently the GM for the European Asset Management for GE Commercial Finance across Europe.

William Onuwa holds a Doctorate degree in Business Administration from the University of Surrey in England, an MBA in Finance from the University of West Indies and a BSc in Political Science. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London (FCII), and a GE certified Master Black Belt and six sigma practitioner.

Dr. Onuwa has a long history of service to community and charitable organizations and currently serves on the audit and financial committee of the board for Young Street Mission as well as on the advisory council of the BBBS of Canada.

He is an active board member/director of various legal subsidiaries of RBC Insurance and also an officer of the following entities:

Senior Vice President, Royal Bank of Canada Financial Group;

Executive Vice President & Chief Risk Officer for - RBC Insurance Holdings Inc./RBC Life Insurance Company/RBC General Insurance Company/RBC Insurance Company of Canada.
